I bought the subject line hard drive. My XP Pro will not
allow the Maxtor MaxBlast 3 program to run in order to
partition, format and configure the drive in my system.
In BIOS, when the new drive is attached, it does see it
though. I just can't get the MaxBlast 3 to run. I have
a P4 2.4 GB CPU, Dragon Lite MB, 512 MB ram and so on.
It is a new system that works well within my XP Pro O/S.
But for some reason, the Maxtor set up program will not
run. I was going to try to partition/format it by just
hooking it up as the C drive and using the XP O/S to do
it but it only sees 130 GB of the disk which is mentioned
in the Maxtor instruction guide. I used my daughter's
computer with an Athlon 1.5 GB CPU and MSI MB. She also
has XP Pro O/S. It worked just fine and I did partition
the drive and format it. However, the MaxBlast 3 program
also makes a change in the XP O/S to get it to see hard
drives larger than 130 GB. This is my problem. My
system needs that change to be made too. How do I do it
without being able to get the MaxBlast 3 program to
work? I also downloaded the MaxBlast 3 newest version
offf the net and that would not work either. Please help
me. Thanks.

You should find the information and steps needed to let XP see the full
drive here

How to Enable 48-bit Logical Block Addressing Support for ATAPI Disk Drives
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303013

Then just use XP drive management to partition and format.

Hope that helps
