I have an optical mouse that suddenly stopped working. I
changed the batteries with no luck. I looked in the
control panel under mouse icon and there was not a device
listed as being the mouse. I also checked the device
manager and it was not there either. Tried adding
hardware but did not see how to add a mouse ( was not
detected automatically). Please help

Easy. Plug the mouse into another computer. If it works, the mouse is fine.

Now plug another mouse in the same port the optical one was in. If it works,
your drivers are at fault. If it doesn't blame the port.
