copy DVD on hard drive to DVD

Hi, I just got a HP Media Center. My husband copied a home movie to our hard drive. What program in this computer can I use to burn it to a DVD? He started it in a program called Show Biz but it will only go to 85% then freezes. Hope I don't have to buy an
other program to do this. I'm not familiar with Media center at all so any help is appreciated. Any one know what's the best DVD's to use? Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the file format of the movie file- is it an avi or an
mpeg for instance. Then have a look at this site:
http://www.videohelp.com/ They have lots of tutorials on how to get
material from one format to another, and have lots of freeware
recommendations. You may already have something installed or bundled
with the PC which can do the job, like Nero or EasyCD Creator. I'm not
familiar with Show Biz.

Locate the file on your hard drive, then right click on it and select
properties from the menu.

File type should be listed in the properties box after it opens.

As in Ryan Miller's response, you can check by looking at the saved
files from within Windows Explorer.

Easy CD Creator is easy to use- I have previously used version 4 and
version 5 on my system, but after many months of use both caused
problems and had to be uninstalled- which caused even more problems.
Following my second bad experience I purchased Nero and have enjoyed
using it ever since. This is just my personal experience- many people
use Easy CD Creator happily for years on end. Do you have Easy CD
Creator?

Both Nero and Easy CD will allow you to create a VCD or DVD from your
home movie, but the process may take hours depending on how fast your
computer is and what sort of disc you are creating. For instance,
burning an mpeg-1 or avi file as a DVD movie requires that the software
convert the file to mpeg-2 (DVD) format prior to the burn. You don't
need to worry too much about the details too much though as these
programs will figure out what they need to do and guide you through the
process. But it may end up being an overnight job for your computer.
The actual burn is the relatively quick phase of the job.

Just find a tutorial for the software you are using at that
http://www.videohelp.com/ site and you'll probably be fine.
