No DVD

I cannot play any DVDs; I keep getting the error
message "Create Overlay failed". I tried setting the
resolution down to 800x600, lowered the color depth and
the refresh rate is already at it's lowest setting.
I've updated XP just before using "Stinger" to get rid of
the Blaster virus. I tried to restore the computer to
before the update but it fails. What's causing this?! Is
it from the virus?
