Hi:
I am using Windows XP. When I connect to internet through dialup,
I do not see network connection icon on the taskbar. I can get
it by going to Network Properties and setting it to "Show
icon in notification when connected". However, the problem
is that the icon does not come up when I login the next time.
I need to manually turn on this option every time I dial.
I also tried the Hide Icons option from the Taskbar Properties
to display the icon always, but this does not do anything.
I searched the Microsoft's web page, the newsgroups and
the web, but cannot find any other permanent solution.
Is there any registry setting?
I will really appreciate if anybody can help.
Thanks.

Hi,
Once it is listed in the Notification Area, run this edit.

Hi:
Thanks for the reply.
Save settings did not work. There is one icon for
LAN network. This is displayed even if there is
no network connection. Is it possible to substitute
this one for the dialup service? Can I change some
registry key to display the icon even if dialup
connection does not exist? I use the icon to find the
connection speed, internet activity and to disconnect.
Is there any software or could I create an icon to
do this?
Thanks.

I locked the desktop and taskbar. But, the icon does not come
again.
I put too much time to tweak XP. This is the last issue left annoying me.
What is the associated registry key? Can I create some .ini, .inf
file that is write protected to do this?
Is this issue resolved on Longhorn? Is it possible to get some
updates from the Longhorn to resolve this?
This is just a GUI. There should be something to gray this out.
Thanks.
