print spooler missing

having just bought a printer, when trying to install it,
it asks if i want to start the print spooler, as it is
required, but when i click yes nothing happens.
i think this is because when i first got my pc i switched
off many unwanted services and since then have deleted
them when cleanig up my hard disc. any thoughts on how i
can obtain this piece of software. p.s my xp was pre
installed with no back up supplied. thanks rob...

Post the printer Model/Type and XP Version/Service Pack info
Then I might have some ideas.....

it's a lexmark z45se printer with installation disc and i
run win xp and on my system properties it says 5.1
(build 2600)
