View Full Version : I'd offer a pizza & beer...

but I'm hoping you'll just take pity on me and help out of the goodness of your heart.

I just bought a new emachines PC and am doing all my installs. I have activated and registered my XP home. However, when I try to install my MS Office Premium (which was installed just fine on my previous system), I'm receiving an error message telling me
that the setup has failed to find a valid qualifying product.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? No pizza and no beer, but you will have heaps of undying gratitude!

Thanks!

It sounds as though the Office product you have is an UPGRADE, which is
why it is searching for a qualifying product. Did you install this on
your old machine yourself, and if so, what was on there previously?
Works perhaps? Can you install this onto your new machine and THEN try
the Office install?

You need a previous version of office. It should be saying stick the =
previous versions CD or floppy in drive so it can check you own it.

Was this copy of office provided with your previous machine? It may be tied
to that system, and cannot find the qualifying product for installation.
Some OEM versions are tied permanently to the system they ship with. If this
is the case, you will need a regular retail version.

Otherwise, I'd suspect as the others have mentioned that this is an upgrade
version, in which case you will need to provide a CD or floppy set of a
qualifying product for installation to proceed.

You apparently have an upgrade version of Office, rather than a full install
version. The setup program is looking for proof of a previous version, and
if you do not have the proof, you will not be able to do the install.

The proof usually consists of inserting the CD or first floppy disk (Setup
may ask you to insert more than one floppy) of the previous version. You
should do this when asked.

Hope this helps.

By the way, I am allergic to all wheat products. How about a marguerta
instead?

Greetings --

Judging from the error message, it sounds like you're trying to
use an Office Upgrade license and CD, but don't have an earlier,
qualifying version of Office already installed. An Upgrade won't work
unless you have the earlier version of Office.
