View Full Version : Help! Task scheduler - revised info (ignore earlier entry)
Peter
May 27th 04, 12:51 PM
I was trying to configure McAfee Virusscan scheduled task but I get ""You
must enable or install task scheduler" error 1721, when I go to T. S. it
shows up, but when I try to do anything it says "missing components or
moved" so cannot do anything with it. It is showing as "stopped" in
msconfig and can't correct it there.
In msinfo32.exe - system information module is "moved or missing" and
unusable.
I've tried several system restores to no avail. I've been up half the night
trying to figure this out.
This all started when I uninstalled "Startupmonitor" programme mentioned
elsewhere in this group. (It was a download)

Well thanks, but now not only does it still not work, but sfc /scannow took
me into repairing windows from the CD and now when I go on to the internet
pages are garbled...images are not always showing and the first 5 or 6 lines
at the top are in html script rather than whatever image should be there.
It's back to the shop for repairs now! I wish I'd never asked the darn
question.

Try running setup off the CD and upgrade your existing install (known as =
a repair install). SFC just makes sure the files are all there and are =
the right version. Install is a bit smarter. Updates will be undone and =
need to be redone.

That's exactly what I did and now everything is screwed up, not to mention
half of my software is downgraded. I also have to upload all 30 or so
windows updates yet! (They were all there before)

I haven't the faintest idea how to back up my files - I've only been on a PC
for 3 months. I'll take it back to the shop. It's under warranty, but I
bet they give me hell.

Using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard
The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard helps you move your data files and personal settings from your old computer to your new one, without having to go through much of the same configuration you did with your old computer. For example, you can take your personal display properties, folder and taskbar options, and Internet browser and mail settings from your old computer and place them on the new one. The wizard will also move specific files or entire folders, such as My Documents, My Pictures, and Favorites.
Open the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
Notes
a.. To open the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
b.. For more information, click Related Topics.
Do it before taking it back to the shop as you may lose all your data.

I haven't used it for 2 years (I have now). Back it up to the hard drive =
and then attempt to burn it. I get "<Drive Letter> in not accessable =

I've backed it up to my C drive but what do I do with the old files? Do I
uninstall them all plus uninstall windows? I wish I could access the
internet I could probably get some more ideas.

You threw me there with your "accessing the internet" (as that how we =
are talking) but you meant the web.=20
So get your backup onto the CD/DVD by right clicking it and choosing =
Send To - <your CDrom> (Is it there on the list, if not right click it =
in My Computer and choose properties and make sure recording is =
enabled).
Enter your BIOS (probably by pressing delete as the computer first =
starts - read the computer manual to confirm as only most, not all, use =
this key) and set your computer to boot from CD-Rom.
Assuming you saved your data (if not STOP then post back) start setup. =
You can reformat your drive during setup (but only if you boot from =
CDRom).
