Make sure Word is closed.
Do a Search for normal.dot
Delete normal.dot
normal.dot will be recreated when you open Word.
By deleteing normal.dot you will lose some customizations.

Hi, Woodzy.

In Wes' tips aren't enough, post your question in one of the several Word
newsgroups, including more than 2 dozen groups in English. You might start
with microsoft.public.word.newusers.

A good place to start would be look at Performance in Task Manager (press
Cntl-Alt-Del or Cntl-Shift-Esc) ?
If Peak Commit Charge is near the Limit, you are running low on Virtual
Memory. If this is the case, increase your Virtual Memory (search Help &
Support for how-to). If Peak Commit Charge exceeds your Available Physical
Memory (used for programs), your CPU might be spending lots of time swapping
pages back and forth between physical memory and virtual memory on disk. If
this is the case, more physical memory would help.

This might not be the cause of the problem, but it is a good place to start.
