i just bought a new xp pro laptop. the taskbar works differently than i am
used to with other xp pro machines.

the taskbar groups multiple instances of apps into a single rectangle.

i can click on the rectangle to select the instance i want to view.

but i prefer separate rectangles.

how to reconfigure ?

Right-click the taskbar, and then click Properties. On the
Taskbar tab, click to clear the "Group similar taskbar buttons"
check box, and then click Apply. For more information search the
Windows XP Professional Help and Support Center for the words in
double-quotes and read the Full-text Search Matches titled: "To
group taskbar buttons by program"

John. Don't take Cerridwen >
response personally. Not only does it appear that "RTFM"
is his favorite acronym. Since Feb 7, 2004 he has used it in
about 53 messages, as evidenced by the following:

Google Search author:cerridwen@celticnet_com RTFM
Results 1 - 20 of about 53 English messages
+RTFM

At least he didn't refer you the following Article ID:
Q209354 – HOWTO
http://www.altgeek.org/methuselah/rtfm/

Evidently he is periodically forced to replace helpful
responses with something like his truly pathetic response
to you. And my guess is that he won't be proud to have
these obvious/lame*ss responses show up on Usenet in
years to come.

Maybe he forgot to take his DHA today and is
temporarily suffering from an impairment of basic brain
function... Unfortunate, since he is an active poster and it
seems he often posts helpful responses.
