Hi,
Having A little trouble gettting WinXP Pro to recognise
my HD. Would appreciate any Help at all.

System:

A7N8X Deluxe M.board
AMD Athlon XP 2.5 Barton Core CPU
512MB DDR Samsung RAM. PC3200
GeForce 4 MX 440 8x
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480W
120GB Maxtor Serial ATA HD
60GB IBM DESKSTAR HD
ABIT Parallel to Serial Convertor

I have my Maxtor Serial ATA HD pluged into the first
serial ata Port,
and my IBM parallel ATA HD pluged into the ABIT Converter
and then plugged into the second serial ata port. When I
boot up, both of the HD's are recognised and displayed,
then windows boots up. When I go to "my computer" only
the Maxtor HD is displayed which is the one I have Win XP
installed on. However, when I go to my device manager
and look under the Disk Drives Icon, both of my HD's are
displayed, and both are working correctly. Furthermore,
when I go to System information in Norton Systemworks, it
displays both of my HD, but if I try to use Norton Disk
doctor or defrag it only detects the Maxtor HD. I tried
changing the IBM jumpers from Master to cable select,
then it wasn't even detected. Can't play around with the
jumpers on the Maxtor drive as there is no diagram for
what they should be set at for Master, slave, etc...

The same thing happens if I set up the disk on my ide
channel. weird!

Would appreciate any help at all!!!

Thanks!!!!

Have you initialized, created a partition and formatted the IBM HD in Disk
Management?
Right click 'My Computer' / select 'Manage' / 'Storage' / Disk Management.
Select the drive and right-click.

BTW, there are no jumper settings on SATA drives - 1 channel, 1 drive
(probably best to keep the IBM set at master).

hope that helps
Pete
