recycle bin

This is one unusual problem. I use XP and everytime I
click on the recycle bin the computer flashlight keeps
spinning until it finds the file. This wouldn't be so bad
but when I delete a file it takes a long time to do so
because I think it may be doing the same thing trying to
find the recycle bin file. How do I correct the
properties of the recycle button so that it won't go
through these gyrations everytime. Any help will be
appreciated.
