I have a fresh install of Windows XP Home with all service
packs and updates, drivers etc. In control panel in system
in advanced then performance I cannot get a change in the
pagefile to stay after reboot. It SETS it 1MB more than
what is suggested. Example I have 512MB of ram and I
cannot make the pagefile be more than 767MB. No matter
what the min and max is it will always set it to 767MB
unless I do not use a pagefile. In control panel in system
the system reports the correct ram-HOWEVER in System info-
this is in system support when the program MSINFO32.EXE
runs and gives a snapshot of the entire system, the
physical ram is not reported correctly. What ever I
have "Physically" in the system is shown as "DOUBLE" IN
MSINFO. Example with my 512MB of ram in the system-MSINFO
shows 1024MB of ram. I have checked all the ram modules
and actually installed another 256MB and now the system
says-IN MSINFO ONLY that I have 1536MB of ram. What ever
total I have is doubled. I believe that somehow this is
tied in to the fact I cannot control my pagefile as well.
Note: I am an electrical engineer and have constructed a
special HD cable that allowed me to swap out my current HD
with an old one with WINME and on that drive with the same
motherboard everything is reported fine and I have control
over the swapfile. The win XP HD is PHYSICALLY
DISCONNECTED IN ALL AREAS FOR ME TO DO THIS CHECK WHICH
points to the WIN XP software problem on the other HD.
Anyone have any ideas?
