I have a computer with XP Pro and a computer with XP Home.
I was trying to transfer a formated (XP Pro) hard drive
(WD 160GB)that has data on it to my XP Home desktop but
it gives me a message that it is a foreign hard drive.
The only thing i can do now is format it, inwhich i lose
all that data.

Is there a fix for this
thanks

Hi Brian,

One issue will be that you have 2 drives, each with an *active* partition.
The XP Pro drive's active partition will need to be made inactive (not
bootable) in order to have the drive not try to be a boot drive, even if it
is properly jumpered as a slave. None of the utilities that Microsoft gives
you can make an active partition inactive, short of deleting the partition
and reformatting it.

Either Partition Magic or Partition Commander have modules which can make an
active partition inactive. With one of those and some experimentation you
should be able to do what you are trying to do.
