scanner will not function

I have installed my hp2200c scanner from the CD-ROM and
all is fine. However, whenever i try to open the scanner
and use it, i get the message "can't find
scanner" , "currently being used by another application",
and "failed to initialize". Any ideas? It worked fine
on my old computer which also ran windows xp pro.

have you recently installed XP updates and/or patches?
