Display Properties

I hope someone can help me...I have XP Home. When I go to display
properties I am using XP Style and if I try to change any of the settings in
the advanced area such as Icon Spacing Horz / Vert or change the menu bar
properties, I am unable to make those changes.
I only have 3 color scheme choices and would like to modify one of them but
cannot get the changes to save.
What do I need to do?
