View Full Version : Unknown User Acct: ASP.NET ???

Computer Configuration: XP-Pro, fully updated, cable connected to MN-500
wireless base station/router to DSL modem. Router firewall on. Norton
Anti-Virus installed, updated, and always running. Adaware6 scanned.
Pop-up killer installed. No s/w firewall on computer. ICF off.
While doing routine maintenance, logged in as Administrator, I discovered a
user account, ASP.NET (limited user, password protected) that I did not
install. A net search reveals that ASP.NET is some sort of Microsoft
authoring s/w. Where the heck did this come from, do I need it, and can I
get rid of it? For security purposes, once discovered I went to Admin tools
and disabled it. No apparent harm done.

The ASP.NET account is set up as part of the .Net framework that you
probably installed from Windows Update. It should do no harm, and I would
recommend leaving it alone.

Hi Cal,
The account is created for viewing/debugging ASP.Net pages. If you are not
developing ASP.Net pages, the account is used whenever you navigate to an
ASP.Net page so that you are able to view and access the page. This is why
the .Net framework installs the user account. On a Pro machine running IIS,
it will also act so that you can debug your application.
Thx,
Nico
