Does anyone know if Windows XP and Office 97 are
compatible? I have heard conflicting stories that they
can be used together and that they cannot interface
without problems.
Thank you.

I don't use MS Office 97 very much but don't have any problem in Windows
XP Home.
Installed the service packs too.

I am using Office '97 Pro, Office 2000 Pro & Office XP Pro on the same
computer with XP Pro (installed in different folders). Since this is
possibly the worse possible installation setup and I am having absolutely no
problems with either version of any of the software included I can only
assume that they are totally compatible with XP operating system.

Only problem with Office 97 installed is the fact that it makes the sending
of a scanned image from a Visioneer scanner malfunction.

Something must be wrong with your setup. Used to have a 4400 Visioneer
scanner attached to the same computer as described in the post below this.
No problems at all. Only reason changed scanner was wanted on faster.
