I just bought a new computer and it was loaded with
Windows XP. I had another version on my old computer with
Microsoft Publisher. I can no longer open my publisher
files. Since I paid for Publisher before, why cant' I
load it on my new computer?

Hi, Patty.
Microsoft Publisher is not a part of Windows XP. It can be purchased
separately or as a part of some versions of Microsoft Office XP.
You can either buy a new copy of Publisher and install it on your new WinXP
computer. Or you can probably install your old version of Publisher on your
new computer, if you uninstall it from your old computer first (to satisfy
licensing requirements). Which version of Publisher were you running
before?
Once Publisher is installed on your WinXP computer, you should be able to
open your old Publisher data files in the new Publisher. If you run into
problems because of different versions of Publisher, you should post any
questions to the Publisher newsgroup, rather than here in the Windows XP
Basics group. You can find the Publisher group here in Communities, or you
can click here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.publisher
Clicking that link should open Outlook Express, set up a News Account for
the Microsoft public news server, and connect you to the Publisher
newsgroup. Once there, you can read a few messages to get the flavor of the
group, then post your own question(s).

Perhaps publisher is not installed on the new workstation?

What makes you think you can't? Have you tried to load it? What
happened?

It is probably an OEM version that came bundled with Office
Small Business edition.
