Hi....my brother put a picture from a website on my
desktop and now I can't change it. I've gone to the
display window and tried several times. I have searched
all files and folders with the advanced search checked
and deleted any files with that name but the picture will
not go away. It's like it's embedded somewhere.I've also
tried to put on wallpaper from other websites like harry
potter and that won't replace it either. Any ideas will
be greatly appreciated..Thanks

Bonnie--

Try searching your C:\Windows folder for *.bmp and view the result as
"thumbs" and delete the picture you don't want from there. Also in the
display properties dialogue box ( reached by rt. clicking the desktop or
through the Control panel applet>desktop>customize desktop>eb tab you might
find it listed there and you can hit the delete button. Or hit the Browse
button on the desktop tab of the display properties dialogue box and look
for the picture there and right click it>delete.

Bonnie--

The "w" was left out earlier--that should be "web" tab.

Hi Bonnie

Right click the Desktop/Properties/Customize Desktop/Web. Remove it from
there.

Added info:

The pictures that show up under display properties, desktop are located in
these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\My Pictures
C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

Type in Start Run
"%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer"

If the above doesn't help, run the edit on line 142 (right hand side)

I was wondering what you mean when you say a picture from a web site.
It's just that I have on my desktop a web page for a cartoon and any picture
displayed on the desktop would display behind it and never be seen.
Go to the desktop tab to where you change your picture.
Now it the picture displayed in the small window at the top the one your
brother put there. I suspect that it isn't but is the one you want there. If
it is then click on 'Customize Desktop...'.
Click on the Web tab.
You'll see a box listing Web pages. Untick them all, and untick lock desktop
items.
Hit OK, and again in the Display properties box.
