Formating the primary partition

How can i format my primary partition
while using my second as a temporary platform
for my Windows XP OS?

Unless you're using a 3rd party boot manager, the only way to do it is with
a boot diskette or from the XP CD. The first partition is the boot
partition, and XP will not allow you to format it while XP is running.
