Logon screen showing old email count

Whenever I get the log on screen it shows 70 email messages waiting. That
was the case when I finally recovered from a system crash, but now my inbox
is empty.....can I fix that?

TweakUI for XP can be used to repair or disable the mail count. TweakUI is
one of the Power toys for XP.
