View Full Version : Why the rudeness around here???

George

I wish I could understand how people come to a place to get help ( this
newsgroup ), and there are those who think that since they know a little bit
about computers that this makes everyone else dumber than a rock, get
ridiculed( you know who you are )? Why do you people(you know who you are)
have to come off as disrespectful, inconsiderate, and intolerable of the
simplest stuff?????

Just because you had a terrible childhood or whatever the heck your problems
are you DO NOT HAVE TO BRING IT IN HERE!!! ( go ahead and holler at me
because I have my caps on, WHO CARES ).

BTW, how do you black list these people in Outlook Express? I am all for
getting rid of Silly You who I am sure will comment on this! He is not
alone in the disrespectful, inconsiderate, and intolerable area neither.

I hope everyone has a blessed day, even you Silly You!!!

The rude individuals are in the vast minority here. Most are helpful
and cordial, particularly the MS MVPs who give of theit personal time
to help us.

Peter,

Its not just the MVP's that give of their personal time. Everyone who takes
a few minutes to answer a question for someone does so on their time :-)
Its just sad when there are those who have the answer, or even a better
answer, and use it, primarily, to make someone else look bad, instead of
just helping the poster resolve their problem.

Highlight the persons post who you wish to block then go to messages and

Unfortunately, there are some people who post here specifically to be nasty,
and others who do have a certain high-and-mighty attitude even though they
sometimes offer help.

On the other hand, there are those who ask questions, but have a problem
accepting answers in a gracious way. I've seen people who will ask a
question with little detail, then when someone answers they'll post back
with, "What's wrong with you, you idiot, of course I already tried that!"

And there are times that an answer may seem rude, but it wasn't meant to be
that way. I had somebody snap back at one of my answers about how rude I
was, and after re-reading my post several times, I couldn't see how it was
rude at all.

As far as the all-caps thing, it is hard to read, and many people will
ignore those posts, thus the poster is losing out on getting advice from
those people. And believe me, the comments about it on this newsgroup are a
lot tamer than what they'd get in other groups. So letting them know that
posting in normal case is better is actually helpful in the long run.
Although I agree that some people take an odd delight in just posting about
the caps without offering any other advice.

As far as not reading the people who annoy you, you can set it up in
Outlook's message rules. It's quite a handy tool for newsgroups and for
mail.

Because they ARE disrespectful, inconsiderate, and intolerable of the
simplest stuff. This applies to some posters AND some responders.

LOL, dude, lol. It's kind of characteristic "it" hasn't commented yet. I
don't quite know *how* cowardly "it" is, but it most certainly can't be
little. Fake eMail add - dude, my heartfelt sympathy, ouch, that really
hurts. George, take it easy, block "it", and you should be set fine.

PS. Ouch again.

There are quite a few posters that I have noted that I would think are
MVPs based on the level of their knowledge but are not MVPs. There
are more than a few experts in this group and I am confident that most
of the participants in this newsgroup certainly appreciate their
efforts in addition to the efforts of the MVPs..

It's true that in online communication at times it's
possible to convey a certain inflection that you did not
intend. The tone of one's post may be misinterpreted.
But I believe the original post deals with the egregious
offenders. No question here that the guilty ones are
just plain rude. You have to pity them, that's all.
Think what their lives must be like offline. I try to
ignore them.

By the way, I think the original poster was simply
acknowledging that he was shouting (with the caps). He
seems to know already that all caps is not a good idea.

sjbibb
December 5th 03, 01:23 AM
Very interesting reading all this and I agree with the
comments. The CAPs thing got me when I first posted to a
forum and the person was not very nice when he told me
this was wrong. People do not know the person condition
that is typing. Can you think how most of us would feel
it we made a remark that was not very nice to someone
that was typing without hands. I for one make many
mistakes typing and or with the English at time but you
see I have a condition that is shuting down my brain a
little everyday, and as such have problems with the
simple things at times. The reason I take the time to
even type this or try to help someone or get help on a
forum is because I need to keep my brain as active as
possible per the doctors.
So for those who have no problems and/or just are not
very nice I pray you do not have to walk in the other
person shoes, I did and found that it is not alway that
easy.

This is Usenet and is an open forum. Since you (and nobody else, for
that matter) has any control over content, your best option is to
either ignore people you disagree with or simply killfile them. If you
don't know what a killfile is, look it up in the helpfile of your
Usenet browser. I also advise you don't go running to that person's
ISP just because you don't like what that someone said. NNTP admins
usually consider these spurious reports of net abuse and will promptly
ignore such complaints. If you don't like this arrangement, may I
suggest something more moderated like the Yahoo bulletin boards.

George

killfile is not in the helpfile database??? Thanks for the suggestion but
my only point was to know how to block from seeing a senders post and I now
know how to do that. BTW, I Yahoo too.

Thanks eveyone for their responses!!!
