I have a problem when I shutdown my PC with WinXP Pro SP1. When I open up
the Start Menu, and mouse click the "Turn off computer" button, the 3
options menu displays and I click "Turn off computer" button". The sound
file plays, items in the system tray close, and nothing else happens until I
go through the process again, >start menu,>turn off computer,>turn off
computer. The PC then shuts down in normal fashion. Any ideas gratefully
accepted.
My PC: AMD Athlon Palomino 2000+
Abit Kr7a MB rev 1.0
512 MB PC 2100 DDR Ram
Gainward Ti 4200 128MB video
60 GB Maxtor ATA 100 - Primary Master
2 - 40 GB IBM Deskstars Raid 0
Lite-on 16X DVD Secondary Master
Lite-on 48x16x48 CDRW Secondary Slave
Thanks for any assistance.

I have seen and have heard this caused by the sound card. Try shutting down
sound first to see if you still get the hangup. If not the sound card try
the process of elimination. Shut down one item first till you no longer
hang.

As with most Windows shudown issues, this is probably caused by a
specific program causing Windows to hang while shutting down. You
might try using the restore program to go back before this started
happening. Otherwise, you'll have to troubleshoot by closing programs
down running in the background to find which one it is causing all the
problems.
