Multiple Monitors Problem

Somehow my computer (Presario 700Z) has been set to
multiple monitors and the default is 'generic tv'. This
has caused problems with my publishing of *pdf
documents. The display properties state multiple
monitors yet I only get an icon for one. Is there anyway
to change the settings back to a single (primary)
monitor? I have disabled and uninstalled the 'generic
tv' but upon reboot it reinstalls and even though I have
disabled it, it is still reflected as my 'current
monitor' in the display settings.
