View Full Version : printing to postscript file fails

I upgraded to Acrobat 6 from 5, and now I can't print to
ps, which I need to do in order to print books to pdf in
FrameMaker. I also cannot print to file from any other
program like Word or Notepad. This happened right after I
installed Acrobat 6. Later, my computer crashed
cancelling out of pdf print jobs in FrameMaker.

The message I get is "cannot write to specified print
file." So I noticed that the read-only setting for all
directories on my computer is set to quasi-read-only,
meaning it's grayed out but checked. It will not reset
back to not read-only, either unchecking it through the
dialog and applying changes to all files and folders, and
not using attrib -R /s. I also tried setting it to read-
only first and then unsetting it, but setting it to read-
only first didn't work either.

I have read in the newsgroups that Windows doesn't care
about the read-only setting of directories, but I don't
believe it. I think this is my problem. The temp
directory that the printer driver is using to write a
print file is also in this quasi-read-only state.

Anybody got any high-powered advice of something else to
try? I have already complete uninstalled (from all
directories and the registry, with Adobe's help) and
reinstalled my generic postscript printer driver. Same
thing with Acrobat 5 and 6.

Thanks.
