View Full Version : Folders view in Windows Explorer

Hi,

My old computer was running Windows 98. With my new Windows XP OS
whenever I open Windows Explorer along the left hand side of the
screen I am given a screen with the options "System Tasks," "File and
Folder Tasks," "Other Places" and "Details." I click on the "Folders"
button and I get the standard Win 98 view with the folders view on the
left of my screen. Fine. The problem is that I have to click on
"Folders" every time I start Explorer. Is there any way to get the
"Folders" view to stick and come up every time I start Explorer just
like with Win 98? I think I've tried everything. BTW, Tools/ Folder
Options/ View/ Apply... doesn't work.

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, but none of these problem solvers seem to apply to my problem.
I'm not trying to change where Windows Explorer opens but what I want
it to what I want it to show down the left hand side of my screen.

Hi

View settings are limited to 400. Try the following link to increase those

Mark,

That article explains it fully.

Explorer /e
This command starts Windows Explorer using the default view. (folder =
pane enabled)

Explorer /n
This command opens an Explorer window using the default setting. (Common =
Tasks pane)

If you're accessing Windows Explorer using a shortcut, you may want to =
remove the "/n" parameter. (if that does not help, add the "/e" =
parameter). If that does not help, tell us how you're opening Windows =
Explorer/folders?

Kenny,

This may be better.

Start | Run | Type: control folders | OK |
General tab | Show common tasks in folders
[[Specifies that hyperlinks to common folder tasks and other places on your
computer are displayed in folders. These links appear in the left pane of
the folder window.]]
