Hi, Rich.

When WinXP Setup runs, it detects the hardware configuration and customizes
your copy of WinXP to fit. When that hardware lineup changes in certain
ways - including a change to the controller for the boot device - Setup must
be run again to re-customize WinXP to fit the new configuration. To use a
new controller for a secondary HD, we can install the driver via Device
Manager, but we must rerun Setup before WinXP can BOOT from the new
controller/HD.

You should find (or create) the floppy with the WinXP drivers for that new
controller card. With that floppy at hand, either do a clean install of
WinXP or perform an "in-place upgrade" as described in this KB article:
How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q315341

When invited, early in the Setup process, Press F6 to install drivers for
SCSI or other mass storage controllers. Then wait while a lot of files are
transferred until Setup stops with instructions for how to use that floppy
to install the drivers.

An in-place upgrade will take about as long as a clean install of WinXP, but
it should preserve all of your installed applications and data - and most of
your tweaks. Be sure to re-enable your firewall and virus protection, then
go to Windows Update as soon as you get back online to get SP1 and other
fixes.

And if you find a shortcut to this procedure, please let us all know. ;^}
