View Full Version : Shut down too slow

Question: Just recently, shut down became very slow on my machine, taking
great pains to darken the background image before I could turn the darn
thing off. Is this happening with anyone else, and is there any way (short
of yanking the power) to speed this up?

What? Don't you go Start>Turn Off Computer>Turn Off? You shouldn't have to
use the power switch, ever, except to produce a cold startup and possibly
when installing some hardware devices.

I don't, I use the power button on the computer to shutdown/startup. See
Control Panel | Power options | Advanced.

Not a case of "shouldn't have to use the power switch", I find it's much
easier.

OK- what details would be useful?

Windows XP sp1
My background is IE Wallpaper

When I go to start -> shut down, the machine seems to want to fade my
background to black before it shows me the "shut down" option selected in
the dropdown and the OK button.

This seems to be sporadic, though.
