On both MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger, click on
Tools/Options/Preferences and uncheck the box(es) which tell it to start
when Windows starts.

when I open up my pc. I have tried to uninstall windows messenger but can't
find it listed on my uninstall list. Can anyone help please.

Greetings Dev,
Windows Messenger does support webcams, dv cameras and video inputs. However, the "Webcam"
functionality within MSN Messenger 6.x requires both sides to be using MSN Messenger 6.x (as
such, Windows Messenger isn't compatible with this function). However, MSN Messenger 6.x
running on Windows XP can make use of a "Video Conference" option, which is fully compatible
with Windows Messenger's video feature.
However, to stop Windows Messenger from starting, open it up (click Start, then Run, type
"msmsgs" and click OK), click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and uncheck 'Run this Program
when Windows starts' or 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' (depending on version) as
well as 'Allow this program to run in the background' or 'Allow Windows Messenger to run in
the background' (depending on version).
