Problem: Internet Explorer does not allow a webpage to
appear even though the status bar shows that I found the
website. IE just hangs up and times out to a default
page that states can't find website.

I just recently purchased a laptop to network with my
desktop by way of a router that is connected to a cable
ISP modem. I'm running XP and IE on both computers. I
have purchased a new wireless router with the intent to
connect to my laptop via wireless IEEE 802.11 card and to
my desktop via hardwired LAN 10/100 card. I have a cable
ISP service with a dynamic address system. I'm confident
that it's NOT any hardware problem or firmware
configuration. My laptop works fine at the office
network that runs Windows 2000 with its dynamic DSL
connection. My laptop (IEEE card) shows excellent
connection when connected to the home network. Also, my
desktop works fine when connected only to the cable
modem. With both computers, I can e-mail out with
Outlook Express, but can't receive any e-mails when
connected to the home network.

I've been on the phone w/ tech support for several hours
for both ISP service and router manufacturer. We have
tried every option and agree that the firmware and
hardware (including IE's configuration settings) are in
proper working order. With our discussions, I have
disable Norton anti-virus/security programs residing on
both the desktop and the laptop and also refresh the IE
programs.

By the way the IE browser hangs up, it appears there is
something XP operating system that preventing the
webpage to appear. Also one of the tech people mentioned
since I had a Norton security program installed that I
must reformat both computers and reload XP in order to
eliminate any conflicting programs in order to get my
wireless and hardwired working. I hope that's not the
case. Please help if you can..
