View Full Version : Shortcut Keys...

Hi,
I have WinXP Pro and when I assign a shortcut key to a program, it
seems to work fine during that session, but no longer works after
re-boot. When I look at the "properties", the key is still assigned
and all "LOOKS" well, but doesn't work!
Specifically, I'm trying to have the "F12" key start PowerDesk.
Thanks in advance,

I just tried it for you, and *I* can't make F12 work either!
(it's never occured to me to use the F keys anyway...)
Why not use a letter?
i.e. assign *z* and then use *Alt Gr* and *z*
That works a treat.

Shortcut keys MUST consist of one character key (a letter, number, or
symbol) plus at least two of the following three keys--Ctrl--Alt--Shift.

*at least two...*?
Untrue
Alt Gr and a letter will do it.

Thanks for taking the time on my behalf zulu. :-)
I've used the F11/F12 (Explorer/FileManager) in Win95 & 98 since,
well... 95ish and got used to it.
Since asking here, I changed it to F11 and, for some reason, it
seems to be working (though I did re-install XP... but that's a
whole other question :->), yet F12 doesn't?????
Again, a sincere thanks,

Thanks for answering Unknown person. :-)
I've since managed to get the F11 key working. (see my reply to zulu)

OK, I understand!

That's wierd...just a thought though..
You did rt. click the shortcut in the *Programs* list (to select
*properties*), didn't you?
Other shortcuts may not work, and they *certainly* won't if you move them
elsewhere!

Actually, the program is at the top of the "Start" menu (use it a LOT,
hence the hot key) but... yes, I did select "properties" by right
clicking on it.
I've been told that the "F12" hotkey is probably being used by some
other program though I haven't a clue as to what one, nor how to find
out! Where are hotkeys stored anyway? In Win9x, if you choose a hotkey
that's already in use, the "Apply" button will remain grayed-out.
Thanks for listening zulu,
