Each time I plug either a USB or PCCARD flash memory card
I get NEW HARDWARE FOUND, and then a message "error
installing hardware - it may not work correctly". Yet it
does seem to work and it can be read or written and
ejected. Why do I get this error message each time I
insert a memory card?

Assuming you are using a card reader, leave it plugged in at all times.
Is there then an error message each time a card is inserted?

Yes, each time I plug a device in the error message
appears. For PCCARDS I use one of the 2 PCCARD slots in
the laptop and for USB devices one of the 2 USB ports in
the LAPTOP. I should have mentioned I am running XP Pro
SP1 on a ThinkPad T30.

Thank you.
