I am trying to convert a Windows XP Works Word Processor
document to Word. I have not been successful. How do I
accomplish this?

What version of Works? There is no "Works XP" so it must be version 7 or
lower. Have you tried opening the file in Word 2000 by launching MS Word
then going to Open and change "Files of type" to "Works 4" ?
Or another option is to open the file in Works and then Save As a Word
document.
Or check here

(if the url wraps just copy and past to your browser)
