CPU usage 100% when using internet explorer

when i go onto the internet ie stops responding and the
cpu usage goes upto and stays at 100% until i close ie.
the pc didn't have this problem until recently, the
processor is a AMD 2600+ with 1 gig ddr ram, internet
runs on adsl broadband. any ideas, sick to death of
turning the internet off, kids giving me headache.
