I am trying to upgrade my cpu to 3.2Ghz. The only trouble
is that when i start the machine again it crashes. The
main difference with this CPU is that it support's hyper-
threading, and windows xp does not seem to be able to
tackle the change over, although it has been designed
with Hyper-threading in mind.
Any suggestions

Hello
Have you done a repair install.
Any time you make major change with XP a repair install and reactivation is
required.

1. Does your motherboard support the newer processor?

2. If so, have you changed your FSB speeds, DIP switches and BIOS entries
to proper settings for the new proc?

3. Is the RAM in your computer compatible with the new Proc?

4. Which version of WIndowsXP are you using.

5. I recommend disabling the HT. Unless you have apps that are written to
take advantage of HT, you will actually get a perfoemance hit by having it
enabled.
