Try double left clicking on the little grey speaker (bottom right corner) which will bring up the play control menu. Make sure the mute boxes are not checked and start with the volume sliders approx 1/2 way up. In Play Control click Options menu, Propert
ies, "Adjust Volume For" select Playback radio button, in "Show THe Following Volume Controls" check all that apply, click Okay, and recheck for any mute boxes being checked (ie. uncheck them all).

Try you sound again.

If still not working. Press Start button, Run, Open: dxdiag (this is the DirectX Diagnostic Tool), window should open, click Sound Tab, click Test Sound, and follow the instructions. Report back any problems. PS you can save the information to a file an
d paste the info to your next post.

Good luck, r

that is a great idea. I am on a new laptop that was working great until a
couple of days ago. The diagnosis states: "Failure at step 19; verification
of software" . Does that mean I somehow managed to screw up my drivers?
