I have 2 computers in my office (both with Windows XP),
connected thru a D-Link Router and sharing some files and
a HighSpeed Internet connection. No problems here. I want
to upgrade one of them to Windows XP Pro--I bought the CD.
If I just install as per the instructions, will all my
settings/files/applications etc.. remain intact. Also, if
I set up Desktop Remote will the client computer be able
to access all the files on the host computer (the one with
the upgraded Win XP Pro installed), even though some of
those files are being shared with the other computer with
only Win XP. --Thanx

Yes, go ahead and upgrade your existing XP installation and everything =
will be preserved. And yes, you will be able to access all files with =
Remote Desktop. You see with Remote Desktop, you are accessing your own =
profile, you aren't someone else connecting to the machine and sharing =
some of its files.

Yes, that's the way it's supposed to work. But an upgrade of an
operating system is a big step, and when taking a big step, it's
always possible that something can go wrong. It's therefore
prudent to make sure you have a backup of anything you can't
afford to lose before beginning.
