I have received SP1 on CD from MS. Are there any pitfalls
I should be aware of before I install SP1?
Thanks

There an always been unforseen issues when you install something as =
major as a service pack. You should back up your data files before =
installation for sure.

Harry,
Take all necessary precautions for the recover of a dead system - be ready
and able to perform a bare metal recovery.
Other then that - install and then go back to Windows Update for all the
latest patches, critical updates and security fixes that have been released
since September last year (when we shipped SP1).
Also ensure you Anti Virus software is disabled during the install and that
you have no other applications open running.

Hi, Mike:
I've read debate about this in the past and would like to hear your expert
opinion: When we are advised, as you indicate, to have no other
applications running during an install, how thorough do we really need to be
about shutting things down? Should we strip things down to just Explorer
and Systray, or does this just mean that we need to shut down any obvious
programs that we are using?
Thanks,
Ian.

In my personal opinion - I close all normal foreground applications (thing
that will appear on the task bar ).
Stop my anti virus program, stop any anything that might kick off - like a
disk defragger , and disconnect any synching programs (like ActiveSync to a
PDA or SmartPhone) as these hold open certain application and other DLLs.
Other then I go and install.
