I have a new multi-slot flash memory reader to download
pictures from my Compact Flash and SmartMedia cards. It
is plugged into a USB 2.0 slot under Windows XP. The
computer recognizes the card reader by showing four
removable storage drives (F,G,H,andI) in My Computer, but
will not read the Compact Flash card. I keep getting a
message that the "Disk is not formatted." This
happens with two different Compact Flash cards and a
SmartMedia card. (The disks do not need to be
formatted.) The card reader and the memory cards work
properly on another computer, so I know that the hardware
is not the problem. There are no specific device drivers
for the reader in XP, so it is not a driver update
issue. The Device Manager shows all devices working and
no faults. The reader was working fine two months ago,
and I can't figure out what happened in the interim. Any
ideas?
