View Full Version : Mouse Cursor sizes in Windows XP

I have authored a large mouse cursor with an icon/cursor editor. It
appears that Windows XP only allows for 32x32 cursors. If you notice,
the "Large Mouse Pointers" are actually using the more space in the
32x32 block than the "Standard Mouse Pointers". I have actually
authored my own mouse cursors using IconXP. I have taken screen shots
to show the size comparisons between those and the extra-large cursor
scheme on Windows 2000. See them at this site:

This is the issue: Windows 2000 allows me to use the mouse cursors up
to 127x127 pixels. It is really funny, because (as you can see from
the images) the cursor is HUGE. On my 1280x1024 screen, it is about 1
inch long! But, I need cursors large like this for a project I am
working on.

Windows XP takes this same cursor and shrinks it down to 32x32. Does
anyone know how to make it behave like the Win2000 system (and stop
shrinking the cursor down, but show it full size)? Any help would be
appreciated.

Jake,

Thank you for the suggestion... that is what I have tried in the past.
I even re-tried placing it in C:\Windows\Cursors (in C:\WINXP\Cursors
for Win2k). But, XP shrinks the cursor down to 32x32 even though the
cursor was authored as large as 127x127. I don't know why this is,
since Windows 2000 allows for the full size to be displayed on the
screen; perhaps this is intrinsic in WinXP. Or, perhaps there is a
registry setting that will allow for the full cursor size to be
displayed.

If you or anyone else has a suggestion, please let me know.

Cliff
