Hi, maybe you can help.
I upgraded my system ram to 1gb.
I want to be sure that I'm using my ram efficiently.
Do I still need a swap file or page file?
Does XP Home defaults assume that system ram is 256mb or
less?

Sys Info
XP Home w/SP1
1 gb system ram
256mb agp geforce video card
(2) 80gb hard disks

Thanks, Bill

While you may not *use* the page file, you might find that you still *need*
one. Some programs will look for the page file, and if it's not there,
they'll choke -- whether they need it or not. Having one doesn't hurt
anything, and if the computer and/or program doesn't need to use that space,
it won't.

Some people will argue that you should manually set the file; other will say
to let Windows manage it. I've tried both and I see no difference, as long
as the computer has enough ram to begin with.
