beeps when booting

My xp computer beeps when booting--one long beep followed
by 3 short beeps and the keyboard and monitor are not
working, either. The computer never beeped before, so I
am assuming this is some type of error code? Is this
something I can fix?

Well could be either Memory or Video, check both of them

Check the motherboard or BIOS manual for "beep codes", to determine what
that sequence means.
