am thinking about upgrading from xphome to xppro. Is
there an advantage to doing this or keep the status quo?
I am not a pro myself.

Any reason you can't search the MS website and find the answers for
yourself? I found them for you in 30 seconds - why can't you do the same?!

I believe one of the big differences is security and being able to setup
users/groups more defined. I also believe there's some networking advantages
with XPPro. If you don't need either of those probably sticking with XPHome
will be fine.
I haven't used XPHome so I'm not sure.
Here's it in more detail:

Any reason you can't be polite? Gail asked a perfectly valid question and
the least you could have done was provide the link to that information that
only took you 30 seconds to find. Microsoft's website(s) is huge and can be
confusing to someone who isn't as all-knowing as you. Perhaps you should
get off your ego trip and realize that these newsgroups are for helping
people solve problems - even problems that are too little for your immense
knowledge to waste time on. If you think a question isn't worth answering,
then leave it alone and go on to someone else. Berating a person for asking
a question is just wrong.
