In June 2002, I started running XP on a new Dell desktop
with a MS Intellimouse, branded as a Dell mouse. Loved
it. Eventually replaced the mouse with a Microsoft Wheel
Mouse Optical USB and PS2 compatible using the PS2
compatible connection. Loved it. However, about two
months ago, I started to experience erratic mouse
behavior:
1.Cursor moved erratically
2.Cursor did not respond when I moved the pointing
device, requiring a reboot.
Time between reboots got worse and worse to the point
where I was rebooting several times a day.
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article -321122 describes the
steps you need to take to address this problem. While the
reboot time improves to a few days after I apply this
fix, including changes to the Registry, it still requires
more frequent reboots with usage.
I'm wondering if this problem may be related to my simply
replacing the MS Intellimouse with the MS Wheel Mouse as
the hardware option for the Mouse Controls in the Control
Panel refer to the mouse as the MS PS/2 mouse.
I've also tried to resolve the problem by running with
the original MS Intellimouse but that does not help
either.
I would greatly appreciate any help.
