I just tried to install fax services. About 20% into it, as the green bar
moves across, the system shuts down, reboots, and comes back up like nothing
happened. Fax console is now on the start menu, as is send fax, as is cover
page editor...PROBLEM is, when I try to send fax, error comes up stating I
must have a fax printer installed and I don't.....So I thought there may of
been a problem with the install...so I tried to un-install it....it's not
there,(on the list of programs installed) and if I try to install it
again...same thing...shuts down, reboots etc etc.

Your system may become unstable during the installaion.
Your modem may have come with some 3rd party fax software which works in the
same way as xp's with the idea of the pronter, but the 3r4d party software
will most likely have more features.

To uninstall the xp fax service, you must untick it in the add/remove >
windows components applet. It will not appear in the add/remove programs
list. You may want to remove it, reboot, install it, reboot and see if it
will work before the software that would have come with your modem.

Your system may have become unstable during the fax service installaion.

Check your modem disks for they may have come with some 3rd party fax
software which works in the
same way as xp's with the idea of the fax printer, but the 3rd party
software

I couldn't uninstall it as the little box remained unchecked as well.

ANYHOW...I solved my problem...while trying to find the modem on
the HCL (BTW, it was), I had to find the modem model....on the modem
properties pages (tabs) I "queried" the modem, and low and behold, it shut
down the same way it did when the fax services was trying to
install....removed it, added it, queried it again, this time it worked, and
so did the fax installation....

Actually, after my init post here, I found the newsgroup ~xp.print_fax, but
as I said above, solved my own problem...but thanks for the help..it is
always appreciated...I guess in a way, my modem was corrupt!
