Can someone tell the difference in the NT and XP.
In the system inf, I find the system shows I've got the XP.
In the files, I've done a search for any file with "winxp"
and found a *.pf file. But when I did a search for "winnt"
alot of files were found! Makes me wonder about the truth,
in my computer, am I running XP or NT. If XP, then, now do
I prove it!

XP and NT use the same kernel. XP is to NT as Windows 3.1 is to
Windows 98SE. XP is essentially NT with improved stability,
performance and a fancier GUI. As to prove it, I don't really get the
point you're asking, unless you're pirating it.

XP is NT version 5.1, Windows 2000 is NT5.0, the previous was NT4.

XP is NT, just a newer version of it. NT goes back to version 3.5 (that I
know of) all the way to 5.1 (labeled Windows XP). Windows 2000 was NT 5.0.

As far as proving it, if you right click on 'My Computer' on the desktop and
select properties, what shows under System? Of course, if you bought a
legitimate copy of XP, then I'd gather you wouldn't be here asking this.

You are running Windows XP, *and* you are running Windows NT.

Windows XP is nothing but the latest version of Windows NT. XP is
just a marketing name; under the hood it's Windows NT version
5.1.

I take it as the person actually doesn't know enough about computers to know
that she is running XP as she states. You guys thinking that she has a
pirated version of it doesn't make any sense? She is confused because she
sees a folder on her hard drive that is called winnt and she wants to know
if she actually is running XP and not NT. That's all, no pirates no
nothing.

jsweatt do as Mike suggested and right click my computers and go to
properties as you will see it on the general tab main information window...I
apologize for these people calling you a pirate as I am sure you are not.
