I have purchased a new, larger hard drive for my dell
inspiron 5000 laptop. I want to transfer win xp
professional(The Upgrade Version)to the new harddrive.
Both hard drives cannot be connected simultaneously. How
can I transfer the os.

You'll need to make an "image" of your old hard drive and then
transfer the "image" to your new drive. To accomplish this,
you'll need to purchase a third-party program:
Norton Ghost 2003
http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/
or
PowerQuest Drive Image
http://www.powerquest.com/driveimage/
You may also wish to visit the support website of the manufacturer of =
your
new hard drive and see if they have a free utility program that you can =
use to
accomplish this task. For example, if you have a new Western Digital =
drive,
you can download their free Data Lifeguard Tools which includes =
"drive-to-drive
copy capability" (Ref: http://support.wdc.com/download/).
