I have a HP9100 series CDR/RW drive. Windows XP loads
drivers for it and device manager says everything is
working correctly but I cant see it in My Computer or
Windows Explorer. I have removed it and let Windows XP re-
install it with the same results. Any sugestions.I

It's funny today after installing a Critical Update [Security Update for
Microsoft Windows (KB824105)] on my machine running XP Pro, I lost my
Plextor CD-RW drive from Explorer and My Computer. I took the drive out and
replaced it, and then ran this fix to no avail. My bios recognizes the
drive, and I can see it in Device Manager; I can even play audio CDs. It
appears as if the autorun feature has been disabled and I can no longer
browse any disks in the drive since it's not visible in Explorer or My
Computer any more. And the sad thing is that the drive worked impeccably
today up until I installed that patch. It makes me very skeptical from
here-on out as to whether I should trust these so-called Microsoft fixes.
Does anyone have a remedy because I know this drive is not defective.
