I have a problem getting XP to use DMA instead of PIO transfer mode on my
HD.
The motherboard is an MSI 6330, VIA chipset with updated 4 in 1 drivers. The
drive I have in now was originally installed as a slave to another identical
disk. The slave was using DMA transfer but its 'brother', the master only
PIO. I then took the master out, installed the slave in its place, changed
the jumpers as they should but now what was the slave is recognised with as
the master but with PIO transfer mode.
The BIOS DMA and PIO settings are on auto. XP has SP1 installed.
My question is : how to force XP to use DMA transfer mode ?
TIA,
Jerry

If you go to www.viaarena.com I think they still have the Via BusMaster
Drivers and IDE Tool. See if that helps.

Thanks, I found out its a problem when installing XP SP1 - you have to
manually re-install the IDE drivers (I found out on the MS Knowledge site).
Thanks for the help,
Jerry
